October 16th, 2010: This is for whoever wants to come to a verge permablitz on Saturday week (16 Oct)
The permablitz will be to work on the verge outside 19 Alfred St, Rozelle.
Some months ago, we did number 17, and now the next-door neighbour would like an edible garden too.
So we all bring things – i.e. some newspaper, some mulch, some soil, some seedlings, some straw, some tools, and then we set to work.
It’s always very good fun.Several people have promised to come.
I’m hoping that the Council will give us some mulch.
I’ll try to get a few things there the day before, and will try to organise a couple of people who have cars to collect some of the bigger items.Get in contact with info[at]tending[dot]net[dot]au for more details and phone numbers

October 1st, 2010: Heather writes: what do you think about the wonderful multi-purpose comfrey? Should we get some for the garden? And what about a frog pond?
This one is not strictly from Heather, but it fits here: Canberra Conference on Community Gardens, October 7-8 2010.
Heather sent through this link to the Melissa Garden, a honeybee sanctuary in California. She just went to an urban beekeeping course and hasn’t stopped raving about it!

September 27 2010: Heather writes: “Justine and I went to the market in Wilson St on Saturday morning
and found the Malfroy’s Gold honey. Tim and his brother Sam were selling several types and also honeycomb.
Moreover, they make a beautiful array of soaps. So we came away loaded with presents.

An heart-warming email from the Riverina:
Hi,
It literally hasn’t stopped raining in the Riverina ever since the new Red Gum National Parks in NSW were created on 1st July.
See photos here.
Nature, with all of her awesome serendipity, has chimed in to make a great environmental outcome truly spectacular.
The long drought is over (at least for now!), the rivers are rising and the floodwaters are rushing in to the Red Gum forests.
Life is on the move and it’s a joy to behold.
So, here’s to you and your powerful advocacy!
Thanks to you, all of the growth and productivity surging into the forests with these rains will not be destroyed and carted off in a log truck next year or the year after.
For the first time, with the waters flooding into protected forests, we’re clocking one up for the future.
See the latest photos of the beautiful new Murray Valley National Park (aka Millewa Forest) in flood. Click on each photo to enlarge.

More will come, slowly growing, as gardens do
